As soon as the honeymoon cruise set sail from Cozumel, my husband locked the cabin and cornered me with an aluminum bat. “That’s how my dad made my mom learn to obey”, he said with a smile. But I didn’t know that I had been a combat instructor in the Mexican Navy… and, with a single movement, the bat ended up in my hands, and his face…

He didn’t understand it.

He saw her thin, elegant, made up, with expensive heels and light nails. He saw the wife he thought he bought with rings, surnames and promises.

He didn’t see the woman who had spent years teaching others how to survive.

Julián raised the bat.

“It will only hurt if you resist.”

And then Camila dropped her heels.

The sound against the wooden floor was small.

But in his head it was a gunshot.

He straightened his back, breathed only once, and his eyes changed. They were no longer those of a confused bride. They were those of someone who had seen the true face of danger up close and knew how to recognize it.

Julian sneered.

“What are you going to do? Hit me?”

Camila did not respond.

He advanced.

The bat went down.

And in the following seconds, Monterrey’s most arrogant heir discovered that he had locked the only woman in Mexico he should never have provoked in a suite.

The blow never touched Camila’s body.

Julián lost his balance, dropped the bat and fell to the floor with a dry moan, more surprised than hurt. Camila immobilized him with a clean, precise, cold speed. There was no anger in his movements. There was training.

There were years of accumulated silence.

There were all the times a woman had to feign weakness to survive.

Julián, face down, was breathing hard.

“You’re dead”, he spat. “My family controls the safety of the ship. My dad knows everyone. When they see that you touched me, you will end up handcuffed before reaching port.”

Camila looked at him.

Then he understood something worse than the attack.

Julián was not improvising.

I was following a plan.

And if she didn’t get proof before they opened that door, the whole story would be turned against her.

At that moment, someone hit the suite from outside.

Three strong blows.

“Boat safety. Mr. Arriaga, open the door.”

Camila looked at the bat on the ground.

He looked at Julián smiling with blood on his teeth.

And for the first time all night, he felt truly afraid.

Not for him.

But because of the network of monsters that came behind.

No one could believe what was about to happen.

PART 2

Camila didn’t open the door.

Not yet.

Julián began to laugh from the floor, with that sick security of men who have lived their entire lives protected by other people’s money.

“I told you”, he murmured. “They came for me. In five minutes you will be begging.”

Camila held him with the silk straps of her luggage, enough so that he couldn’t get up. I didn’t want to hurt him anymore. I wanted time.

Time to prove the truth.

He took Julián’s cell phone from the table. It was blocked with facial recognition. He squeezed her eyes, defiantly.

“Don’t even try.”

Camila leaned down next to him.

“I don’t need your permission.”

It forced him to look at the screen for just a second. The phone was unlocked.

They hit outside again.

“Madam, open the door or we’ll go in.”

Camila ignored the voice.

He entered the messages.

At first he found the normal: suppliers, lawyers, architects, friends congratulating him on the wedding. Then he saw a group fixed all the way up.

The Patriarchs.

Five members.

Julian.

His father.

His two brothers.

And a contact saved as Lic. Vargas.

Camila opened the chat.

The first thing he saw was a photo of his own wedding. She appeared smiling next to the cake, not knowing that she was being evaluated as merchandise.
